Having been a generally active and athletic child, I didn’t think picking up running as a hobby would be overly difficult… I just didn’t want to do it! The mile-run-day each week in high school was basically torture to me as each tedious lap dragged on for a millennium until I finally got to the penultimate one and was ultimately rewarded with a small pencil check mark in the PE teacher’s gradebook. Little did I know that over 15 years later, running would become not only a hobby for me, but a way of life. Over the past 7 years, I’ve run countless 5ks and 10ks, 3 obstacle runs, 13 half marathons, and 1 full marathon. Running has become a way for me to connect with new friends, challenge myself mentally and physically, fundraise for children and women with cancer, and inspire others to choose and maintain a clean and healthy way of life. So to my high school self I say: Live simply, run swiftly, and dream big… because you never know where life will take you!
