Hola, I'm Cecilia! I'm a 26-year-old, Mexican-American triathlete who lives for swim, bike, and run in the beautiful Santa Cruz, CA. I am an active member of the Santa Cruz Triathlon Association (SCTA) and coached by Martin Spierings (TriCoachMartin.com).
My endurance sports journey all started at Turlock High School when I joined the cross-country team my sophomore year. While I wasn't the fastest runner in the pack, I fell in love with running long distances. The team's mantra, “Never-ending strength", has influenced my life into adulthood. Every obstacle I've overcome has been met with this relentless strength within me. I sadly stopped running during college to focus on my studies and gained weight. After starting my first career job, I signed up to run the Seattle Half Marathon to kick-start my fitness journey. To this day, it's one of the races I am most proud of because it was a catalyst for positive, healthy changes in my life. I lost over 25 pounds, moved to a new city, found my community, and chased the dream. I wouldn't trade it for the world!
I have 7 Half-Marathons, 1 Cyclo-Cross race, 7 Sprint Triathlons, 3 Olympic Triathlons, and 2 Ironman 70.3s under my belt. When I'm not swimming, cycling, or running with my SCTA or TCM Squad buddies, you can find me in a core-yoga class or reading a good book.
