I started running in 2014 after I found out I have the BRCA1 genetic mutation which puts me at a high risk of breast and ovarian cancer. I started running to make sure I could decrease that risk as much as possible. I set the goal of running 1 half marathon and then I would just start running a couple times a week. Six years later and I've now run 15 half marathons, 2 marathons, a 50K, and countless other 5Ks and 10Ks. Running has become part of me. I've had some non-running injuries (car accident, broken bones) that have kept me from it for months at a time, so I feel like I've constantly been restarting, but "progress over perfection." That's my mantra and I'll keep going until I can't anymore!
