My name is Melissa Alex, I am a military spouse, mother of five, and marathon runner. I began running in 2007 after the birth of my third child. I was trying to get into shape and some girls at the gym asked if I was a runner. I was not, but that was all it took to become hooked! I began running 5k's and 10k's which quickly turned into half marathons. I loved the distance, the speed, the way I connected with my body and mind, and of course the running community. Once I started training for full marathons I quickly learned this was a different beast. I endured Injury after injury until I paired up with a coach, then the real training began. I ran my first marathon in 2008 in 3:56:22 and my second in 2009 in 3:38:48 which was a BQ at that time. I have now completed seven marathons, while pursing a graduate degree an internship in nutrition and dietetics and raising five children. I love the connection with my mind and body that allows me to push through the difficult times. Nutrition is my other love in life and I am a firm believer that an athlete gets out what they put in. Discovering nuun changed my life for the better and I enjoy spreading the joy. My next stop is Chicago Marathon 2019!
