Growing up, I've always participated in team sports and considered myself an "athlete". I played basketball, softball, volleyball, and soccer. I didn't pick up running until my late 20s when the idea of running a marathon popped into my head. When I applied to run the Bank of America Chicago Marathon for the first time, the most I had ever run was a 5K. I told myself if I got in, I'd figure it out. If I didn’t, there would always be next year. I got in, trained, and crossed that finished line. Here I am, a few years later, still running and a member of a supportive and encouraging group/family, Students Run Chicago.
